Season 1 Episode 24 Gracas a Ele (Because of Him)

Week ending August 19, 2019

Hello my friends!!! This past week was a little slow...but here are a few of the best things that happened.

Monday- After we finished emailing, we went to the house of one of the sisters in our ward that cuts hair because my companion wanted to cut her hair a little bit and basically just have her trim off her dead ends. Then I asked if she had time to trim my hair too, luckily, she ended up having time and I got my hair cut as well. It was definitely a crazy moment when I looked and saw a bunch of my hair on the floor, but it is a fun and new little change!

Tuesday- We had district meeting and we learned a bunch from our leaders. I always love being able to get together and learn from other missionaries how all of us can become better and improve our teaching skills. It also gives us so much motivation to keep working hard! The rest of the day we made contacts in the street and we went to a lesson with one of the people we are teaching and she is the lady that talks sooo much!!!! So, we were talking to her and I tried to start a lesson and she just kept talking about other things and was definitely not wanting to hear anything that we had to say... #rough

It is SO COLD
Wednesday- WAS FREEZING!!!!!! It was so cold, but we received so many references from members, that kept us pretty busy and we always seem to get the best references!!! The member whose house we were going to for lunch with invited her friend to have lunch with us so that we could share a message with her, she is awesome, and we are excited to keep teaching her! Which we are totally counting it as a MIRACLE!

Thursday Friday and Saturday flew by and we were sooo HOT!!! I left the house with tights trying to be prepared and definitely did not need them, because we were dying! When we were close to our house, we stopped to get Açaí one of the days and change out of our cold Winter clothes and get into some better Summer clothes. The weather here is so extremely crazy and keeps us on our toes, and changing our clothes at least twice every day!! It reminds me a bit of Utah, one day freezing and the next extremely hot!

So, Sunday we got to church and it started to downpour rain.... We hadn’t thought to bring an umbrella, but we were lucky enough to have the lady we were having lunch with gave us a ride to her house!! Afterwards we started to walk to Jessica’s house to borrow her umbrella. We were almost there... and it started to DOWNPOUR!!!!!! We had to stop it was so strong!  We then taught a lesson to her mom and her Stepdad. They both want to be baptized and love the church but they both have a really big problem with smoking... But we are working with them, and they are awesome and totally capable of quitting.

Jessica our bestie...in the down pour with US
So this week we used a super special video in a bunch of our lessons and we had some amazing experiences with this video called (Graças a Ele) I think in English it would be the (Thanks to Him) video. It talks about Christ and everything he did for us so that we have the opportunity to live eternally with him and with our loved ones again. And to help us know that because of Christ we can repent of our sins. Because of him we can have happiness and joy. When we live closer to Christ, we will be able to find eternal happiness and know that Christ is the Beginning, the Middle and the End. To know that he is always here with us to help us. Which means that this week I’m going to challenge each one of you to watch this video and recognize Christ more in your daily life and all of the gifts that God and Christ have given us.

Celebrating Fathers Day the Brasil Way!!! (thanks to face time)
I had the chance to call my dad since it was Father's Day in Brasil.
It was fun to see my whole family together while they were on vacation in St. George.

*Note from Mama Nic I received a fun Direct Message from a member in Carley's area saying,
"Mama Nic WE HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU"
Then all of a sudden this picture pops up showing Carley.
She CUT her hair...I love it I replied back!!
Then she proceeds to tell me that the sweet lady was suppose to
just give Carley a trim....but just kept on cutting it.
I think she looks darling...

Season 1: Episode 23 - Oiiiiiiii! TUDO BEMMMMMM!?

Oiiiiiiii! TUDO BEMMMMMM!?  (Hi! OKAY!!!)
Okay this week was wild to say the least...where do I begin?

Monday - Saying Good bye for now but not forever...I had to say goodbye to Sister Amorim she will be forever in my heart. I literally cried non stop the entire way to dropping her off. I never thought that I would find my Best Friend in Brazil.  But guess what I DID.  I feel so lucky that I had the chance to work with such an amazing person as she is.  President talked with me for a bit over the phone about how I was doing and asked me to be a Trainer WHAT?? a trainer I feel like I am still in training. haha  I am very excited and nervous all at the same time!  I know this area really well so I am excited to embark on this new adventure.

Tuesday - We got a call from the Elders in the offices telling me and the other sister that was staying with me that our new companions were getting on the plane. She is going to be training an American and I will be training a Brazilian! The Elders told us how nervous and stressed our new companions were. After their phone call we headed to the airport to get our "mission daughters" (filhas) We got to the airport and finally met our new comps! My new companion is Sister Anunciação and when I first met her I could tell that she was definitely very nervous, and quickly learned that she does not speak any English. Sister Anunciação is from Bahia which is on the Nordeste (North East) side of Brasil, haha all of my comps so far are from different states of Brazil but all from the Nordeste! The other new American Sister did not understand anything that was going on, and it was crazy for me to think back and realize that only 5 months ago that was me!!! So something funny, well not so funny in the moment but it is a little funny looking back on it, was that Sister Anunciação was a little nervous about everything and all of a sudden the member that was helping us, broke her suitcase!!!! The rest of the night was good, we went to Jessica's house and I got to talk with my trainer Sister Santos over WhatsApp!! It was really cool because she finished her mission and is back at home now!

Wednesday- So this was one of those days as a missionary where quite possibly everything that could have gone wrong..... went wrong! All of our lessons that we had planned and scheduled for that day fell through which made it a very interesting first day of missionary work for my companion and for me as her trainer lol

Thursday-  Remember how Wednesday was the "everything went wrong day"? Well that happened on Thursday too, almost everything went wrong as well.... BUT we stopped and said a quick prayer that we would be able to meet some really good people to teach! And I was once again reminded that the Lord works in mysterious ways.... We found some super awesome people that were in need of a message and a prayer! so that was a major blessing and a super awesome answer to our prayer!

Friday- Our recent convert Janaina came to a lesson with us, and we were really excited she was able to come with us! The name of the lady we were teaching is Ana, and she is one of those people who just really likes to talk... like a lottttt!!!!! Needless to say we spent a bunch of time with her that day but we are excited that she is progressing quite a bit!!!

Saturday- The morning was freezing!! So I left the house wearing soooo many layers of clothing but it turns out that even though the morning was so cold the afternoon got  to be sooo hot!! We went to a few lessons with some of the people that Sister Amorim and I found before, such as Sandra, Tat and Noeli and everyone was a little sad to not have Sister Amorim here still but they are excited to get to know Sister Anunciação!!!

Sunday- Church at 8 am!!! Wow that's always the best thing! On our way to church we passed by Ana's house to see if she was going to go to church with us. She told us that she could not come this week because it was cold and it was Fathers Day here in Brazil .... Because of the Fathers day festivities only one of our friends came to church! But after church we had a fun lunch with a bunch of members from Bahia and that was so much fun! we also got to call our Dads too!! Which was a super fun surprise and fun to see my dad for "Fathers Day"!  My companion was also bitten by a spider on her leg so we went to the doctors to make sure everything was going good and since she could not walk very well with her spider bite we were ordered to stay in our house for the rest of the night!!!! So we studied a bunch and made some dinner!

Not going to lie this week was a little rough, but I know that next week will be better!!!! I love you all so much and remember to always look for the Lord's hand in your life! Just like we had to do when we were needing to find  someone to teach. The Lord is always here for you!!!!

Love you all,
Sister Sanovich

Episode 22 - Head Ache Continues - Forgot my Journal - Its been a Week

*Mama Nic here....

We didn't' receive an email from Carley this week she forgot her weekly planner that she uses to make an email. She did tell us on our weekly phone call that unfortunately she has continued to have migraines.  She had a follow up Doctors appointment on Thursday and the Doctor had diagnosed her with Vertigo.  Hopefully with the right medication and some rest she will get feeling better.  This week she will be traveling about 4 hours to her Zone Conference. Her baptism that was scheduled for last Saturday fell through but he is still coming to church which is a good sign.  Carley continues to be in good spirits and has a really great attitude even though she hasn't been feeling her best.  Please keep her in your prayers and if you have a minute to email her she would love to hear from you.

Thanks for all of YOUR LOVE & SUPPORT.

Episode 21 - dor de cabeça.... ainda (headache STILL?)

June 22, 2019

Oiiiii tudo bem? (Hi, How are you?)
Okay this past week was great and quite interesting.
Lemme tell you a little about it!

Monday:  Our plans fell through to have a family night but turns out everything worked out really well because we had a friend that called us to stop by and teach her a lesson!

Tuesday: We taught some amazing people with a lot of questions about the church I am getting a little more comfortable with the language that it helps to answer what they are asking. Then when we left the lesson it was SUPER dark outside, darker than on any normal night.  Our District Leader ended up calling about that same time and told us that we were having an eclipse! It was cool to see.  We got to see the ending of the eclipse!  After that we went to a member’s house and ate hot dogs!! (yes, a food detail)

Wednesday:  We met some new people to teach with a bunch of potential!!  Then later in the day we were clapping at doors and asking people if we could share a quick message with them and say a quick prayer..... When we clapped at this one house the lady opens the door and says, “No my religion doesn’t permit that.” Ohhh OK.
My head had been hurting since Monday and I called Sister Gonçalves and she able to get me some medication that seemed to help for a little bit but then it came back.  That night we ended our day at the Bishops house to hangout and eat some cake! (another food detail)

Thursday:  Was a regular weekly planning day and then we taught our friend! He committed to being baptized next week!!!  We are beyond excited because he has been going to church every Sunday for 3 months now and is so Happy!

**Mama Nic Note:  We have asked Carley to tell us the names of the people and the details she is teaching...but unfortunately, she is not really great at the either one. But boy do we love that she is actually typing her own emails now. (hahaha) Hopefully one day we will get more details!

Friday and Saturday nothing too exciting happened, we taught our friends again and we are so excited because they are sooooo awesome and progressing quite fast.

Sunday:  We went to church and guess what?? WE had 6 friends come with us!!!! After church we went to a member’s house for lunch.  She kept talking about how she would love to come to the states to sell Brazilian food in Time Square. I of course think that would be AMAZING…and she could totally do it.  After lunch my head was still hurting worse than before, it felt a little like a sinus infection.  When we were leaving I actually almost passed out and had to stop for a bit. My companion suggested going to Jessica’s house which was really close.  Jessica felt like we needed to talk to our Bishop (I think they were nervous that I was not doing well) We ended up talking to our Bishop and he spoke with President and they agreed that I needed to go to the Hospital. UGH
I almost had to go by myself which I don’t completely understand but I guess because I haven’t’ had really any problems they thought I could just go by myself.  WHAT???? I was VERY NERVOUS first of all I don’t know what is going on with me and then the whole Portuguese language.  So guess what I did??? I pretended that I didn’t understand anything so that my companion could come with me and translate for me. lol! I am NOT one who likes doctors anyways then to go by myself without my companion.  I don’t think so.  The Bishop luckily wanted to take us so that was awesome as well.  We talk to the doctor and he said that I do have a sinus infection they were able to get me a prescription to take for the week.  But because here in Brazil they like to to give you an IV first to get the medicine in you before you take your first dose.  I ended up having an IV for about 40 minutes to make the spinning stop....Luckily it helped! We were at the hospital for about 3 hours and our Bishop waited with me the entire time!!! He is so sweet! Then we went to his house and he gave me a blessing of health & strength.  I am feeling much better now!

Lol so that was a crazy end to our week.

I do have a Doctors appointment on Thursday just to make sure everything is going good!
That’s about it for this past week!!!
I love you all and remember the church is true, the book is blue and God loves you!

XOXO
