Ola! So, the past few weeks have been crazy. I have not
really given the best updates, but I wanted to tell you all about my new
experiences in my new area. I am currently in the Ingleses ward that is up at
the North end of the island of Floripa. My new companion is Sister Lima who is
from Tocantines, Brazil she has been out on the mission for 7 months. We live
with two other Sisters, Sister Maldonado and Sister Marques. The area is really
really big, so we have to use more buses than I did back in Rio Tavares! It has
been a great area and we have a lot of different people that we are teaching.
Tuesday February 4th, We had a service project
today with one of the Sisters in the morning where we helped her clean up her
apartment because she is moving to another apartment. Afterwards we went to a
part of our area where there are currently more people from Argentina, and
Uruguay than there are people from Brazil. Since it is still Summer here people
from a bunch of different countries come to visit the beaches that are part of
my new area. Later that night we went to visit a family and I found out that
his sister is in the Efapi ward and that she has lived there for years!! I was
trying to think of who his sister was and then all of a sudden, he was Face
Timing her so I could talk to her. After talking to her for a second she gave
him Jessica’s number so I could talk to here for a couple of minutes. It is
crazy how small the world is! I have missed Efapi ever since I left there.
Wednesday February 5th, One of the best parts of
the day was a lesson that we had with new people that I am meeting here their
names are Claudinette, Mayara and Chica. They are some fun people that just
recently got here in Florianopolis from the North of Brazil. We talked a little
bit about faith and how we always need to strengthen our faith especially in
these new situations and when there are a lot of changes in our lives.
Friday February 7th, Today we had our Mission
Tour, we had almost the entire mission together except for Chapeco and Lages.
This is one of the special meetings when we have one of the Area Seventy or an
Area Authority that comes and talks with us in a special meeting. This time
they talked to us about the smartphones that we are going to be getting as a
part of our mission and how we can use them in order to better the missionary
work her in Brazil. This technology will also help us find more people, teach
better and baptize more. It was special and a fun day to see all of my mission
friends that are in other areas!
Sunday February 9th, My favorite part of Sunday
was our Family Night with a family we are teaching from Venezuela. They are so
much fun, and they love the church too!
Monday February 10th, We went for a hike! There
are so many hikes to do here and they are all beautiful!!
Tuesday February 11th, We had a lesson with
Sebastiao, his baptism was marked for Friday but unfortunately he has started
smoking again. He still wants to come to church and still has a desire to stop
smoking it might just take him some time.
Wednesday February 12th, Today was a fun day! We
went to a school with a member from Venezuela to help her get her kids into a
school, but unfortunately there were not enough seats at the school. Then we
met some fun people, a guys stopped us saying “Sisters”, and he was really
funny telling us about his religion and that we need to go visit. Afterwards we
were on our way back home and I saw a giant painting of Christ in Gethsemane. So,
I stopped to talk to the lady that was sitting near by it, and she told us that
we could go back and visit with her. She told us that her daughter’s mother in
law gave her that painting and she is a member of the church.
Thursday February 13th, We had a funny experience
talking to a man at his door. We were clapping doors and he seemed interested
in talking to us so my companion asked if his girlfriend was there to see if we
could enter to teach him. He tells us that she is and pretty soon she comes to
the door and asks him what he is doing, and he replies, “What can I not talk at
the door?” and she yelled back at him “No!” So that was an interesting experience
for the day. Later that night we went on splits, we are teaching the family
from Venezuela in Portuguese to help them learn how to speak better. Since
Sister Maldonado is from Argentina, she went with me to teach them, she speaks
to them in Spanish and they reply in Portuguese. It is a little complicated
because they live in our area, but they know that Sister Marques also speaks a
little bit of Spanish but are wanting to learn Portuguese so that is how we try
to teach the and help them learn at the same time.
Friday February 14th, We had an emergency zone
conference… We all thought that President was going to be upset with us about
something, but we were wrong it was a good meeting!! We found out that we have
a general authority coming to visit our mission soon, so we just went over a
few different rules and guidelines in our mission. Then we went back to
President’s house for lunch and he gave a fun spiritual message. He showed us
all a video with the song “You raise me up” and really the message is true.
When you are in the hardest moments and during our challenges in life our
Heavenly Father and Savior are here for us. They love each one of us!! He will
always be there for us!

Saturday February 15th, Church was great today!!
I learned that the World’s path might be easy, but that Christ’s path is so
much better and comes with so many rewards eternally!! The sun today was hot!
We have entered SUMMER!! At night we went to our neighbor’s house and we got an
exciting reference from him! It was great to talk with him and he ended up
making us dinner too so that was nice of him!
Well that was a little summary of the past two weeks!! I
hope everyone is doing well!! Remember that Heavenly Father loves you!!
